Georgetown University
Founded in 1789, Georgetown is the nation's oldest Catholic and Jesuit University. Located in Washington, D.C., the nerve center of the country's government and crossroads of international affairs, Georgetown is recognized for its commitment to justice and the common good, intellectual openness, and a distinctly international character.
Its 6,400 undergraduate students represent a wide diversity of ethnic, religious and regional backgrounds, including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and over 100 foreign countries. Graduate programs include the nationally recognized Law Center and Medical School as well as Master's and Ph.D. programs.
Committed to attracting students of all socio-economic backgrounds, Georgetown has a "Need-Blind" admissions policy and meets 100% of the demonstrated need of U.S. citizens and permanent residents. To enhance the experience of its diverse student body, the University has centers such as: The Center for Multicultural Equity & Access, the Women's Center and the office of the LGTBQ Community Resources. Additionally, the Diversity Action Council, in support of Georgetown's international character and focus on social justice, promotes campus events & dialogue around diversity, both globally and US society. Such events include El Reventón Latino, a Latino cultural variety show; performances by local mariachi bands; original poetry and spoken word; flamenco, reggaetón, and hip-hop dance productions; and Cuban, Mexican folkloric, and traditional Caribbean dance performances.
Georgetown alumni are well represented in many professions - in particular government and public service. Notable alumni are: former President Bill Clinton, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, author, journalist and First Lady of California, Maria Shriver, former Surgeon General Antonia Novello, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Jorge Fortuño and Hispanic College Fund CEO, J. Fernando Barrueta.
