Marcela on mentoring:
HCF allows me to give back to my community and give others the opportunity to change the world by providing motivation and encouragement to our youth.
"I volunteer because I believe in Hispanic College Fund's mission of making a difference and changing the world, 'one degree at a time.' I have been involved with HCF in many volunteer capacities since I became aware of the educational needs of our Hispanic youth while interning in the federal government.
Through HCF's Hispanic Youth Symposium, I have been able to expand my Hispanic professional network and connect people and organizations to partner on various projects, as well as encourage other Hispanic professionals to serve as role models (Hispanic Heroes) during the Hispanic Youth Symposium. I support the Hispanic College Fund because the successful stories of our youth include not only attending and graduating college, but promoting, and getting involved in community service and taking responsibility for changing the world and making a difference in someone's life.
HCF allows me to give back to my community and give others the opportunity to change the world by providing motivation and encouragement to our youth. The need for Hispanic Heroes is still present and until that need is fulfilled, I will continue to give my time and support to HCF. I have to overcome obstacles and challenges in both my personal and career life everyday, but providing support, advice, motivation, and encouragement to Latino youth helps me stay focused in reaching my dream of becoming a Foreign Service officer.
I am passionate about youth and education and I encourage other Hispanic professionals who have not been engaged in volunteering for any of the HCF programs yet to get involved. By supporting the Hispanic College Fund, I am contributing to my community and fulfilling my dream at the same time."
