 Maria Avelar Year and Location of HYS:2004 Marymount University, 2005 Marymount University, 2006 RA at Marymount University, 2007 RA at Marymount University High School: Mount Vernon High School Class of 2005 School currently attending: Virginia Tech, May 2009 What did you get out of attending HYS? When I heard of HYS I was pretty hesitant to attend but it was the best decision I have ever made. All of my life I knew I had to succeed and did everything possible alone. By attending HYS I was able to meet other students that had similar feelings and also goals. After attending HYS I was motivated to go to college and apply to more higher ranked schools. Now I am a senior at Virginia Tech graduating in May. What are your educational and career goals? Currently I am a senior double majoring in Psychology and Spanish at Virginia Tech. I will be graduating in May and currently am applying to law schools and also graduate programs. My goal ultimately is to work with intellectually and emotionally disabled children.
