Isamar Valdez

My name is Isamar Valdez and I attended HYS in the year 2007 at Fresno State University. I personally found the entire experience as eye opening and truly helpful.

Attending the HYS showed me that I am not the only Latina striving to better myself; there are hundreds of Hispanic students who strive to achieve their goals and to make a difference in each of their lives and their communities.

I am now a psychology major at Holy Names University and I LOVE IT! Each day is a new experience and each obstacle has made me a stronger student and a stronger person. My goal is to graduate from Holy Names University after four years and then attend graduate school. With hard work and determination I know I can reach my goal.

The HYS was so much fun and meeting new friends that I still talk with to this day was worth it all. The workshops I attended and the experience that I lived at the HYS came at a great advantage when I found myself at the university I now attend. I was much more knowledgeable about things than I thought I would be without the Symposium. Attending HYS was an insightful experience that I do not regret whatsoever.
