David Barba has joined the staff as the new Director of the Hispanic Youth Institute, Los Angeles.

David graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2003, earning a BA in Screenwriting from the School of Film and Television and was a member of the NCAA Division I baseball team.  After college, David worked for one of the most successful post-production companies in Hollywood and wrote articles for a nationally published screenwriting magazine.  Nonetheless, David decided to go back to school to pursue a career in education.  David has a Single Subject Teaching Credential in English and is a candidate to earn his Masters in Education in the Social and Cultural and Analysis program with an emphasis in urban studies from California State University Long Beach.  David aspires to one day merge his skills in film with education to create meaningful films or documentaries.

David grew up in Lennox, California, a predominantly Hispanic city near the Inglewood area.  He knows how important it was for him to have mentors guide and encourage him to go college.  College opened up many doors for David and it is this idea of opportunity that drives him to make an impact in communities.

“My decision to work in education is based on notion that I can inspire students to dream big and make those dreams tangible goals,” says David.
