Googlers Educate More Than 300 Santee Students About Computer Science Career Opportunities

Kaiser Permanente Physicians Inspire Santee Students to Earn College Careers, Pursue Health Care Careers

LOS ANGELES (April 3, 2012) – On March 21, nearly 300 freshmen at the Santee Education Complex in central Los Angeles participated in the second round of career exploration workshops emphasizing in STEM, business and health care.  Kaiser Permanente physicians Dr. Mateo Ledezma, M.D. and Dr. Marie F. Martinez, PharmD spoke with the students about their personal stories, medical practice, the importance of college, and encouraged them to consider careers in the health industry.

Applications Now Open Until April 30 for 2012 Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute Kick-Off

LOS ANGELES (March 2, 2012) - The Hispanic College Fund (HCF) is now accepting applications for freshmen and sophomore students from Belmont, Roosevelt, Santee, and Jordan high schools to attend the 2012 Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute (HYI) Kick-Off, which will be hosted at Loyola Marymount University from July 26-28, 2012.

Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute Brings Individualized Academic Counseling to 100 Youth in Fall

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 6, 2011) – Staff members from the Hispanic College Fund (HCF) have provided individualized academic counseling to approximately 100 students from Belmont, Roosevelt, and Santee high schools in downtown Los Angeles, in addition to a school-wide college fair at Belmont Senior High School, and workshops on essay writing and college preparation.

Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute Commences Year-Round Programming

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 28, 2011) – About 150 alumni of the Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute (HYI) summer programs are meeting in their high schools to strategize ways to bring college and career programming to their parents and peers in the coming school year.  The students, who attended college residencies at UCLA in 2009, 2010 and 2011, are joining Hispanic College Fund (HCF) staff members and volunteers for lunch meetings at Belmont, Roosevelt and Santee senior high schools to plan their upcoming activities.

Former NASA Astronaut Dr. John "Danny" Olivas to Address Los Angeles Latino Youth on Aug. 9 at UCLA

Jason Acosta Joins the Hispanic College Fund to Help Develop the Next Generation of Hispanic Professionals

LOS ANGELES (June 13, 2011) – The Hispanic College Fund is pleased to announce that Jason Acosta has joined their staff as the new Director of the Hispanic Youth Institute, Los Angeles.  A native of Los Angeles, Acosta is a 2010 Yale graduate and former Coordinator of the Maryland and Washington, DC Hispanic Youth Institutes. Jason comes to the organization having served as an intern with the U.S. Department of Commerce and as the La Casa Cultural Staff Coordinator with the Yale University Latino Cultural Center. Acosta also has experience working on local political campaigns and in the policy sector.

2011 Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute Draws Nearly 300 Applications for Summer College & Career Program at UCLA

LOS ANGELES (May 24, 2011) – The Hispanic College Fund announces applications from high school students to attend the summer kick-off of the third annual Los Angeles Hispanic Youth Institute topped 260 for 125 available seats, with 98 percent qualifying for free or reduced price lunch and a majority expected to be the first in their families to achieve a college degree.
