Scholarship Selection Committee

Scholarship Selection Committee

Each year with the help of our volunteers, the Hispanic College Fund is able to award scholarships to Hispanic students who are often the first in their family to attend college and whose average GPA is a 3.5 with an average family income of $20,000. These are truly inspiring individuals! By becoming a member of the Scholarship Selection Committee and as an HCF Scholarship Reviewer, you will have a tremendous impact on these students' lives.

An HCF Scholarship Reviewer should posses the following qualities:

  • Be a college graduate, preferably a working professional in the business, science, technology, engineering, or math field;
  • Have the ability to assess applicants' academic strengths, career potential, and commitment to education;
  • Believe in HCF's commitment to increase diversity in various careers; and
  • Empathize with applicants' personal history of overcoming challenges.

As an HCF Scholarship Reviewer, you will help HCF accomplish its mission to provide worthy Hispanic students with the resources needed to attain a college education.

Hispanic Young Professionals and E-Mentoring

Hispanic Young Professionals

As part of the Hispanic Young Professionals program, the Hispanic College Fund matches 35 of its scholars selected to participate in a leadership development program in Washington, D.C. with a professional mentor. With the guidance of professionals like you, HCF is able to provide Hispanic college students, who are often the first in their family to attend college, the professional development skills needed to transition from college into careers. A special luncheon is arranged where mentors meet a scholar who shares their academic or career field experience. Both parties make arrangements to stay in communication for the remainder of the academic year for professional guidance and support. By becoming a mentor, you will play a great role in ensuring that promising Hispanic college students will enter a successful career track.

E-Mentoring

The Hispanic College Fund also provides e-mentoring to students. To sign up as an e-mentor, please fill out the registration form below, clicking "other" under "What type of volunteer events interest you?" and typing "e-mentoring" in the provided space. You will be contacted by a volunteer manager shortly.

What others are saying about their volunteer experience:

"As a volunteer who has been involved with the Hispanic Youth Symposium for the past 5 years, I continue to support the Hispanic College Fund because they are making a huge impact on the students. I am passionate about being able to mentor Hispanic males who often lack positive role models from their community. By supporting the Hispanic College Fund, I am contributing to the Hispanic community and the future leaders of this country."

Christopher Hoppe, US Patent and Trademark Office

"From a personal perspective I've found the HCF Mentoring program to be very rewarding. It made me proud to see and interact with so many young, motivated fellow Hispanics. Listening to their success stories and the challenges that they have had to overcome to succeed has compelled me to contribute both off-duty time and funds to help them realize their dreams."

Captain Jesus CantĂș, US Navy

"I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have spent quality time with the students and all of you at HCF during the Hispanic Young Professionals program. HCF is doing a fantastic job and one that will make a difference in the lives of many of our youth."

Louis Laguardia, Ph.D.
