Successful Hispanics Inspire Local Teens
For 16-year-old Sabrina Rueda, the most inspiring thing about the Hispanic Youth Institute is that many of the speakers came from modest circumstances. “A lot of them are people who grew up the same way we did,” said Rueda, who just finished her sophomore year at Valley High School. “Some of them were poor, but they made the best of it.” Rueda was one of about 70 Hispanic high school students who spent Thursday at the University of New Mexico, hearing from successful Latinos. They also heard from Hispanic students who are either in college or recently graduated.
