TWC in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund is pleased to announce the BB&T Hispanic Workforce Development and Training Initiative. Please see below for more information about BB&T. This opportunity will allow up to ten student fellows each year to participate in an academic internship facilitated at BB&T offices throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.

The goal of the BB&T Hispanic Workforce Development and Training Initiative is to provide bright Hispanic Americans access to an internship program that will give them a better understanding of the financial services industry. Simultaneously, students will participate in an academic program administered by TWC, which will enable them to receive college credit from their home institution.

The internship

BB&T fellows will be afforded a hands-on learning opportunity in which they will support the day-to-day operations of a specific department. Interns will be responsible for the management of special projects and daily work assignments, and will be exposed to various professional development opportunities.  Upon completion of the internship, participants will be better prepared for a future career in banking and financial services. Additionally, interested students will be considered for BB&T’s Management Development Program (MDP), a centralized, comprehensive, structured training program that provides future managers of BB&T with a strong foundation in the financial services industry. Associates participate in an intensive six-month training curriculum of classroom and on-the-job training in technical, supervisory, management, and sales skills.

Cost

The Washington  Center, similar to a college or university, charges a program fee (tuition) and a housing fee. Selected BB&T fellows will receive a full housing scholarship in addition to a $175/week living expense allowance. Fellows will be responsible for transportation to and from Washington, D.C, and for the program fee, which may in some cases be paid in whole or part by their universities and/or scholarship funding from their states.

Fellowship Eligibility

Students must:

• Be of Hispanic background with U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
• Attend a higher education institution in and/or be a permanent resident of Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia or Washington, D.C.
• Major in banking, finance, accounting, business, or other related discipline.
• Be a rising junior or senior, or recent college graduate.
• Have a 2.75 GPA or higher.
• Be eligible to earn academic credit from their home institution.
• Utilize Washington  Center housing.
• Participate in either the fall or spring semester; each is 15 weeks in duration.
• Intern in specific BB&T placement sites provided for the initiative.

• The initial application includes personal and academic information, essay and resume. For your convenience, letters of recommendation and transcripts will be accepted at a later date.
• BB&T will oversee the final evaluation and selection process of all BB&T fellows.
• Notification of awards will be made by TWC’s regular deadline.
